Take the exam

On the day of the exam, arrive at your exam center at the specified time.

The supervisor checks your ID and your invitation. You are asked to validate your personal information (surname, first name, date of birth and e-mail) and sign on a tablet.

This information will appear on your diploma. Be sure to check your personal details when signing.

The supervisor tells you then where to stand to start the first test and gives you instructions on how to take the exam.

Points to remember:

  • Your cell phone and any other electronic device must be switched off.
  • No personal belongings are to be left in evidence or on the table during the tests, with the exception of your ID.
  • You must not contact other candidates.
  • In the event of lateness, access to the current examination session is subject to authorization by the center.
  • No one is allowed to leave the premises during the computer-based tests. 

Presentation of the tests

For the duration of the exam, you are allowed to use a paper dictionary, either unilingual or bilingual.

You may also use the draft sheets provided by the supervisor to take notes.

You may keep these notes for the duration of the exam, before returning them to the supervisor at the end.

Computer-based tests

The Undersanding and Processing Information tests are computer-based.

The supervisor will provide you with a login and password to access the online test platform.

Once logged in, follow the instructions for each test.

Oral test

The Oral Interaction test takes place face-to-face with an examiner.

Diploma in French for Business A1

Total examination time: 60 mins

Understanding and Processing Information

  • Processing written information:
    1) Find the right person/department in your professional environment to reply to a request,
    2) Manage your diary,
    3) Create/Fill in a product sheet,
    4) Complete an administrative document
  • Processing oral information:
    1) Take note of a telephone call and follow-up action,
    2) Orientation/Find your bearings in space
    Written expression and interaction: Personalize an e-mail in response to a simple request

Oral Interaction

  • Activity 1: Informing a colleague about their schedule
  • Activity 2: Inform a customer about a product/company

Diploma in French for Business A2

Total examination time: 60 mins

Understanding and Processing Information

  • Processing written information:
    1) Complete a company identity sheet,
    2) Write a product presentation text,
    3) Complete an order form,
    4) Select a job offer suited to your search
  • Process oral information:
    1) Modify an agenda according to information gathered,
    2) Take note of instructions
    Interact in writing: Write an e-mail in response to a proposal

Oral Interaction

  • Activity 1: Answer a customer’s questions about a product
  • Activity 2: Present training and professional experience

Diploma in French for Business B1

Total examination time: 1 hr 50 mins

Understanding and Processing Information

  • Processing written information:
    1) Comment on a graph,
    2) Interpret qualitative comments on a product/service,
    3) Complete a project summary sheet/draw up an action plan based on meeting minutes
  • Process oral information:
    1) Organize notes based on structured oral discourse,
    2) Convey the content of a short oral message to a colleague,
    3) Write an e-mail in response to a request, taking into account additional information
    Interact in writing: Write a motivational e-mail in response to a job offer

Oral Interaction

  • Activity 1: Present the background of candidates for a position and make a case for your choice to management
  • Activity 2: Present the features/advantages of a product to convince a potential customer

Diploma in French for Business B2

Total examination time: 2 hrs 30 mins

Understanding and Processing Information

  • Processing written information: Write a note/report responding to an identified problem, based on a documentary file
  • Processing oral information: Write a report on an oral presentation
  • Written expression and interaction: Write an e-mail response to a complaint, taking into account the instructions of the person in charge

Oral Interaction

  • Activity 1: Arguing/defending options in a negotiation
  • Activity 2: Present the results of an activity over a given period of time

Diploma in French for Business C1

Total examination time: 2 hrs 30 mins

Understanding and Processing Information

  • Processing written information: Write a note/report based on a documentary file in response to an identified problem
  • Processing oral information: Write a report on a round-table discussion you attended as a listener
  • Written expression and interaction: Write an advertorial (promotional text) on a new product

Oral Interaction

  • Activity 1: Meet a customer and convince them to buy while following the classic phases of sales negotiation
  • Activity 2: Respond spontaneously to a question requiring an elaborate answer

Further information

How do you write special characters (é, è, ê, ç, à, ...)?

If your computer keyboard does not include special characters (é, è, ê, ç, à, …), you can access a numeric keypad directly on the platform where you take the exam.

What are the consequences of fraud?

Any attempt to cheat during the DFP examination will result in severe penalties.

In the event of fraud, falsification or disruption of the exam session, sanctions will be imposed by Le français des affaires Disciplinary Commission.

Penalties may include cancelation of the exam or of the diploma issued, and/or a ban on taking the exam for a period set by the commission.

The Disciplinary Commission’s decision is communicated to the exam center and,and if applicable, the exam prescriber.

Distribution of subjects

Test subjects are confidential. Any reproduction and/or distribution, in whole or in part, by any means whatsoever (photo, photocopy, internet, smartphone, social networks…), without the authorization of Le français des affaires is strictly forbidden.

In the event of non-compliance with these instructions, Le français des affaires reserves the right to take appropriate action (invalidation of the test, prohibition from taking the exam, legal proceedings, etc.).
