Take the exam

On the day of the exam, arrive at your exam center at the specified time.

The supervisor checks your ID and your invitation. You are asked to validate your personal information (surname, first name, date of birth and e-mail) and sign on a tablet.

This information will appear on your diploma. Be sure to check your personal details when signing.

The supervisor tells you then where to stand to start the first test and gives you instructions on how to take the exam.

Points to remember:

  • Your cell phone and any other electronic device must be switched off.
  • No personal belongings are to be left in evidence or on the table during the tests, with the exception of your ID.
  • You must not contact other candidates.
  • In the event of lateness, access to the current examination session is subject to authorization by the center.
  • No one is allowed to leave the premises during the computer-based tests. 

Presentation of the tests

For the duration of the exam, you are allowed to use a paper dictionary, either unilingual or bilingual.

You may also use the draft sheets provided by the supervisor to take notes.

You may keep these notes for the duration of the exam, before returning them to the supervisor at the end.

Computer-based tests

The Undersanding and Processing Information tests are computer-based.

The supervisor will provide you with a login and password to access the online test platform.

Once logged in, follow the instructions for each test.

Oral test

The Oral Interaction test takes place face-to-face with an examiner.

Total examination time: 1 hr 50 mins

Understanding and Processing Information

  • Processing written information:
    1) Comment on figures concerning a country or an international theme,
    2) Summarize the main points of international news,
    3) Organize a formal event
  • Processing oral information:
    1) Convey the main ideas of a speech,
    2) Write a simple confirmation e-mail
    Interacting in writing: Respond to a job offer by explaining your motivation for a position

Oral Interaction

  • Activity 1: Present a mission, a project and negotiate mission details
  • Activity 2: Present a country situation on a given theme (education, culture, health, media) and the actions taken in this context 

Diploma in French for International Relations B2

Total examination time: 2 hrs 30 mins

Understanding and Processing Information

  • Processing written information: Write a briefing note to prepare an international project meeting
  • Processing oral information: Write a report on an oral presentation
  • Interacting in writing: Write a formal e-mail response

Oral Interaction  

  • Activity 1: Express a point of view on an international relations issue and argue in multilateral negotiations
  • Activity 2: Make a presentation on a theme (education, culture, health, etc.) to partners 

Diploma in French for International Relations C1

Total examination time: 2 hrs 30 mins

Understanding and Processing Information

  • Processing written information: Write an official statement by a government or an international organization on a current international event, based on a documentary file
  • Processing oral information: Write a report on an oral presentation
  • Interacting in writing: Write a keynote speech for a public event, using working documents (invitation card, event description, biographical sheets/CV)

Oral Interaction 

  • Activity 1: Negotiate over the phone to get support in the field
  • Activity 2: Respond spontaneously to a question requiring an elaborate answer in a job interview situation

Further information

How do you write special characters (é, è, ê, ç, à, ...)?

If your computer keyboard does not include special characters (é, è, ê, ç, à, …), you can access a numeric keypad directly on the platform where you take the exam.

What are the consequences of fraud?

Any attempt to cheat during the DFP examination will result in severe penalties.

In the event of fraud, falsification or disruption of the exam session, sanctions will be imposed by Le français des affaires Disciplinary Commission.

Penalties may include cancelation of the exam or of the diploma issued, and/or a ban on taking the exam for a period set by the commission.

The Disciplinary Commission’s decision is communicated to the exam center and,and if applicable, the exam prescriber.

Distribution of subjects

Test subjects are confidential. Any reproduction and/or distribution, in whole or in part, by any means whatsoever (photo, photocopy, internet, smartphone, social networks…), without the authorization of Le français des affaires is strictly forbidden.

In the event of non-compliance with these instructions, Le français des affaires reserves the right to take appropriate action (invalidation of the test, prohibition from taking the exam, legal proceedings, etc.).
